MOSCOW, April 27. /TASS/. Submissions for the second Future History International Science Fiction Award will open on May 20, 2026. The Award's prize fund will exceed 6 million rubles, the organizers announced.
"We need new visions of the future. Unlike the bleak dystopias and techno-thrillers that dominate screens and bookshelves today, the Award seeks positive, constructive scenarios for tomorrow – ones that inspire young engineers to create and writers to dream on a grand scale," said Andrey Timonov, Head of Communications Department, State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM.
The competition will be held in four categories: Best Story, Best Story for Children and Young Adults, Best Foreign-Language Story, and Best Screenplay Pitch. According to the organizers, the rules for the second season will remain unchanged: only previously unpublished works are eligible for submission. The competition brief and submission guidelines will be published on the Award's official website.
The Award is dedicated to supporting science fiction as a genre capable of shaping positive visions of the future and serving as a platform for public dialogue about technological development. The organizers believe that, in an era of global challenges – from climate change to the ethical questions raised by artificial intelligence – science fiction can act as a bridge between science, literature, and society.
More than 2,500 authors from Russia, as well as countries across Africa, Asia, South America, and Europe, participated in the first season of the Award. The final ceremony took place on November 8, 2025, at the Atom Museum at VDNH in Moscow. Stories by the finalists were subsequently published on the LitRes platform.
The Future History International Science Fiction Award was established by the ATOM Foundation to Promote the Development of Research, Education, and Communication Initiatives under the auspices of the State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM. Its mission is to promote science fiction, contemporary achievements in science and technology, and the development of international connections and professional exchange within the science fiction community.
The organizers also intend to create opportunities for collaboration between science fiction writers, scientists, and young people. Additional information regarding the timeline of the second season, the composition of the Jury, the categories, and the prize fund will be announced at a later date.
