Moscow, October 22. – The Future History International Science Fiction Award and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation have announced the launch of a partnership. The initiative is being implemented within the framework of the Decade of Science and Technology in Russia and is intended to strengthen the role of science fiction as a tool for understanding technological progress and promoting science.
The goal of the partnership is to integrate the Future History Award into Russia’s scientific and educational environment, increase the project’s visibility among scientists, researchers, educators, and students, and promote the idea of the scientific grounding of science fiction.
As the organizers of the Future History Award emphasize, the main areas of cooperation involve information exchange: mutual coverage of key Award events and significant initiatives of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education in the field of science and higher education, as well as the promotion of scientific knowledge. The partnership is aimed at demonstrating the connection between current scientific research and the themes that are important to explore in science fiction literature.
“Science fiction is no longer just entertainment. It is becoming a laboratory of ideas, a bridge between today’s science and tomorrow’s technologies,” said Andrey Gelasimov, writer and screenwriter, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, and Chair of the Jury of the Future History Award. “The mission of the Award is to support authors whose works not only impress with vivid imagination but are also grounded in real scientific knowledge and deeply explore emerging technological trends and their impact on individuals and society. The partnership with the Ministry of Science and Higher Education is an important step toward fulfilling this mission.”

The official presentation of the Award took place in December 2024 in Moscow at the non/fictioN26 intellectual book fair. From February to July 2025, submissions were accepted, and to date, out of more than 2,400 entries, 27 best stories have been shortlisted. The geographic diversity of the finalists highlights the scale of the Award and the universal interest in the science fiction genre. Writers from Russia, countries across Africa, Asia, South America, China, and Europe submitted their works.

It aims to inspire authors to create worlds where science and progress drive positive change, and bold ideas resonate with readers. The Award promotes science fiction that presents the future not as a threat, but as an opportunity for the harmonious development of humanity and technology.
The total prize fund exceeds 5 million rubles. The Award is presented in three categories: Best Story, Best Story for Children and Young Adults, and Best Foreign-Language Story.
